passenger safety law in the country.

Children ages four and older were required to be restrained but could use the vehicle’s safety belts which are designed for adults. Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among children in the U.S., but many of these deaths can be prevented by placing children in age-and size-appropriate car seats.Children who have outgrown their

harness car seat by weight or height use a booster seat until they reach the height of 4’9” (typically between the ages of 8-12). A booster seat simply “boosts” a child up and allows for proper placement of the lap and shoulder belt, which is crucial for safety during a crash. Without a booster seat, safety belts improperly cross over a child’s soft stomach and neck which can lead to serious debilitating injuries in the event of a crash. Use of booster seats can reduce injuries by 45 percent compared to using an adult safety belt alone.

Jed Suhl, Vice-Chairman, acted as master of ceremony, and in his remarks he said “we are the backbone of America, fighting for his protection of the freedoms conquered by our founder fathers, and opposed to government

taking our hard earned money, and giving it to somebody else.Other speakers were: Frank

Attkisson, Osceola County Commissioner, who mentioned the accomplishments of attracting the University of Central Florida Research and Science facility to our county, offering hope and prosperity to the area. He also agreed with Suhl, affirming that we are supposed to spend our money, not the government.

Mike La Rosa, Florida House of Representatives, indicated how under the leadership of Governor Rick Scott, the state has a balanced

budget, more than 30,000 new jobs were created, and Florida has surplus money, eliminating the debt left by former Governor Charlie Christ. Democrats favored the establishment of a “state income tax” in Florida, said Mark Logas, Professor at Valencia College. He also added that we can defeat the American liberals if we follow the principles granted to us by our founder fathers. Logas reminded us that Ronald Reagan won his reelection in forty nine states because he did not compromise his principles, and we also need to fight for our principles, like Reagan did.

City of St. Cloud welcomes 9th-graders participating in summer youth program

St. Cloud, FL - City of St. Cloud welcomed 19 Osceola County middle schools’ students who are participating in Community Vision’s Youth Leadership Program. The students visited St. Cloud Police Department (SCPD), Public Services, and St. Cloud Fire Rescue (SCFR) June 16 during an afternoon of public service education and inspiration. The 9th-graders learned about municipal services and local government. SCPD’s Ofc. George Randolph explained the duties of his department’s Special Operations Unit personnel and allowed the students to learn first-hand how heavy their protective gear can be. Public Services’ Water/Wastewater Lines Division’s Line Technicians Jack Lovejoy (foreground) and Gene McKenzie talked about some of the equipment they use out in the field. SCFR’s Lt. Bill Campbell explained the importance of a firefighter’s protective gear step-by-step. The students also learned about SCPD’s Traffic Unit and Forensic Unit, Public Services’ recycling program and water treatment plant operations, and SCFR’s Tower 31 and “B” Shift operations.

County Sheriff’s detectives with the Robbery Unit arrested Jose Diaz-Concepcion and charged him with Home Invasion, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Kidnapping-False Imprisonment, Receiving Money/Property Fraud Using Credit Card and Battery on a Person 65 Years Old or Older.

The investigation began on June 21 at approximately 2:33 am. when deputies responded to 325 Rosedale Avenue in St. Cloud. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the 70-year old victim who indicated she was awakened to an unknown suspect lying on top of her and pushing a pillow against her face. She struggled with the suspect as she was grasping for air. The suspect demanded cash

but the victim told him she did not have any cash in the residence, only her bank card. The suspect left her residence with the bank card.Detectives identified Concepcion as

a suspect during the investigation. Concepcion had worked for a former lawn maintenance service that contracted with the homeowner’s association in the victim’s

neighborhood. Concepcion had also attempted to use the victim’s bank card to withdraw money from her account. Based on this information, detectives brought Concepcion in for questioning and he cooperated with the investigation. On June 23, Concepcion was booked into the Osceola County Jail.
