ACHIEVERS PROGRAMFor more than 40 years, the Achievers program has served as the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago’s signature college readiness and career exploration program. Founded in 1971 at the Harlem YMCA in New York City, this nationwide program fosters the academic, personal and career development of minority, underserved, and first-generation college-bound students in grades 7-12.

Program goals are to:• Introduce youth to diverse college and career options

• Remove barriers to college access

• Help youth develop a positive sense of self and build character

• Raise the academic standards of youth

• Provide role models whose success and knowledge inspire youth to set and reach their goals.

The Achievers program operates through a cohort model of teenage youth at public schools and within YMCA membership centers. Achievers utilizes the evidence-based 6to16 curriculum, developed by the University of Chicago’s Urban Education Institute, to assist youth with the complex college-going process and ensure that they succeed in and graduate from college.

The Achievers are in session from October through June. For more information please contact LaDawn Norwood at [email protected] or 773.326.2559.
