Descent movie analysis

By Haydn Williams

Screen shot one

This is the first screen shot I have found. It is a w/s shot. It is also a tracking shot but slowly focuses in to help hide who is behind the cake. It then focuses on the cake towards the end of the shot.

Screen shot two

The second screen shot is a close up of Sarah in a hospital bed. The camera is set at a high angle to help show Sarah is weak.

Screen shot three

This screen shot is a c/a because in the scenes before we hear the heart monitor and then it cuts away to show it.

This is a w/s of Sara coming out of the room into the corridor. This makes the audience feel on edge for her because we notice the corridor getting darker before she does.

Screen shot four

This screen shot shows the trombone shot as Sarah notices the hallway getting darker. This will show the audience the realisation on Sara’s face. Also to show how darkness is trying to get her. The trombone shot would have being the camera moving closer but zooming out at the same time.

Screen shot five

This is also a wide shot but the camera is attached to a steadicam to allow the camera man to get a steady shot of Sara running downing the corridor. This will allow the audience to tell that Sara is trying to escape the darkness.

This shot is also a steadicam shot but it is from behind. This is done to make the audience think that something is chasing her in the darkness. It is also a p.o.v.

Screen shot six

This screen shot is showing a m/s. This scene is still shows the camera man using the steadicam as it is allowing him to do a 360 degree angle with the camera. This is allowing the audience to see everything that is happening within the scene.

Screen shot seven

This shot is another steadicam shot. It also shows the reaction of Beth(Sara’s friend) as Sara runs into her arms panicking.

Screen shot eight

This is a close up of Sara’s face to show how she is upset for the loss of her daughter and her husband. It will make the audience feel sorry for her. The shot was also a steadicam as it does a 360 around the two people.

Screen shot nine

This is the last screen shot and it is a close up of Juno. It could also be a cut away as it cuts away from Sara and Beth. It will show the audience how the whole group is affected by the loss.
