PREMO SUPPORTS PROGRESS FOR

NORTH GREENBUSH

Mark Premo is seeking re-election asHighway Superintendent. He hasserved in this position for the pasteight years managing a 1.4 milliondollar budget and 14 dedicatedemployees.Premo expressed concern that as thetown grows adding new developmentsand roads, monies set aside in PILOTfunds to maintain these roads havebeen taken by the town board forother town expenses. It’s my hope that residents will standwith me opposing this practice andrestore these funds to the HighwayDepartment so we can put an addition on the garage to housenew trucks purchased to handle the growth without costlyborrowing. Premo noted that more than $370,000 in set asidehighway funds were in his budget at the beginning of last yearand in the last few months, I have been informed the balancesheet was as low as minus $90,000 one week and plus $50,000the next. None of this money was used by the town boardmajority with my authorization and at no time was there apublic budget transfer as required by law. “I believe the TownBoard is using Highway Funds to make themselves look goodnow, but later the Highway Department will pay the price”,stated Premo.I am hopeful a new Town Board will be more responsible stewardsof Highway Funds and feel fortunate to be on the ballot withcandidates that understand this. Premo has been informed hewould be the choice of Supervisor candidate Charles Smith ashis Deputy Supervisor, an unpaid position, and that his expertisewould be utilized to help run the town with the same efficiencyas the Highway Department. “I will be honored to serve in thisposition and will work closely with the next Town Board forfiscal accountability”, stated Premo.Mark is running on ROW “A” with candidates determined tobring real progress to the town. His running mates include CharlesSmith for Supervisor, Ernest Kern and Andria Fisher for Counciland Mike Derevlany, Receiver of Taxes. Mark and his wifeMargie live on Pershing Avenue and have four children and fivegrandchildren. ~Submitted by Mark Premo

Our 99%I would like to express mythanks to “the 99%”. I havebeen involved in EastGreenbush politics for a longtime. I was a committee personin the 1970s to the mid-1980s.I have been a council-person,deputy supervisor, andSupervisor for 14 years. I haveattended hundreds of TownBoard meetings, missing only 3during those years. At these meetings there have been numerous differences ofopinions, problems to be solved, and questions to be askedand answered. These have been expressed by Democrat,Republican, Conservative, Independent, Working Family,Liberal, and probably the “Rent is too damn high” partymembers. In all that time, and through all those questions,99% of the people who have addressed the Town Board havebeen civil, polite and concerned. As a Board, we have listenedand have taken action to help whenever we could. If unableto act exactly as the resident asked, we have engaged inone-on-one discourse and have attempted to reach acompromise position. We have not made decisions onpersonality. As one movie said, “It’s business”.Unfortunately, it seems that this has changed, at least for asmall handful of residents, who feel justified in publicly libeling, slandering, and defaming anyone who disagrees with them.I would like go on the record about this despicable trend. This administration and the good people who work in towndo not deserve this treatment and I will not have them bepublicly insulted. This small group has made countlesscharges, all without validation, against this administration, saying whatever hateful thing they can think of withoutoffering any proof of wrongdoing. As Supervisor, I can acceptcriticism and reasonable disagreements that are expressedin a civil manner. I believe that those residents of EastGreenbush who have continuously acted in a responsiblemanner expect and deserve no less. The same is true forthe Town Board and the good people who work for theresidents of East Greenbush. To the 99%— I want you to know how proud I am to serveas your Supervisor. Over the years, I have come to knowmany of you and to call you friends. I ask you to go out andvote on November 8. I am asking for your continued supportfor our team, Toni Murphy, Sue Mangold, Phil Malone, and ofcourse, for me, Rick McCabe. In return, you can be assuredof a government that cares about the needs of EastGreenbush.

Thank you, Rick McCabepaid advertisement

FRANK CURTIS SEEKS TO CONTINUE

SERVICE TO SCHODACKWith decades of communityinvolvement, Frank Curtis is seeking tocontinue serving Schodack as a memberof the Town Board.Curtis has supported f iscal lyconservative policies as a member of theTown Board, helping control spendingand stabilize property taxes. The townhas also been able to maintain important

services despite a difficult national recession, even while reducingspending in some areas of town government. The town’s strong financial showing and work at controlling costswas recognized through an upgrade of the town’s credit rating in2011. The respected financial analyst firm Moody’s raised the town’sbond rating from A1 to Aa3.“Our priority has been to control spending and balance budgets.By carefully watching our costs and ensuring budget stability, wehave been able to protect needed services and weather a difficultrecession,” said Curtis.“Having those efforts recognized with an improved credit rating isimportant, because it shows to new businesses and investors thatSchodack is on the right track. It helps build a foundation for thefuture,” added Curtis.Curtis has called Schodack his home for his entire life, and has beenactive in the community for decades. Frank has been active withthe East Schodack Fire Co. for 36 years, including past service aschief and assistant chief. A former Scoutmaster and 4-H leader,Frank is an Eagle Scout and served Schodack as town assessor. As Councilman, Frank helped author a Right to Farm Law to protectfarmland and open space, helped develop a Master Plan, andsupported raising exemption levels for veterans, disabled and seniorcitizens. He recently helped establish an electronic collection site atthe town transfer station, and supported efforts to keep SchodackIsland State Park open recently after a shutdown due to state fiscaltroubles.“We have been proud to maintain needed services, and in somecases, expand the services offered to residents. The services providedby the town help protect quality of life and we want to keep Schodackstrong,” said Curtis.Frank and his wife Bonnie live in East Schodack and are the parentsof two daughters. ~Submitted by Frank Curtis

SAY NO TO THE ROBELOTTO TEAMLetter to the Editor: It is time for a change, time to say NO tothe Robelotto team and their lawyer Donna Cole-Paul. Theirmistakes have cost thousands of taxpayer dollars inunnecessary, unwarranted lawsuits. They have continuallyvoted to represent the interests of their political cronies insteadof Sand Lake Citizens. For example, did they represent yourinterest on mining, lake access, the community van and zoning?Their “leadership” consists of steering Town business to theirfriends, while doing as little as possible on their assigned Towncommittees. Their lack of vision and moral near-sightednessdemeans Town residents. Are their votes really putting youand Sand Lake First?Flora Fasoldt, Mark Cioffi and John Snieszyk will restore integrityand competency to the work of the Town Board. These folkswill honor and adhere to the Town’s fiscal and policy proceduresand will treat residents with respect. It’s time for a change.VOTE YES to that change. ~Barbara Martinage, Averill ParkEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.

SPAIN RESPONDS TO QUESTIONSLetter to the Editor: I would like to respond to the letter fromPatricia Noel in last week’s Advertiser. She questions my abilityto serve as North Greenbush Supervisor next year if I amworking full time elsewhere. The fact is that the question iscompletely irrelevant since I have made it abundantly clearsince I first decided to pursue the office of Supervisor, that Iwould retire from my position with the City of Troy if I amfortunate enough to win this race. Moreover, my opponenthas been well aware of my plans, and is manufacturing a non-existent issue and purposely misleading the citizens of NorthGreenbush.I wish my opponents would concentrate on the real issues inthis important race rather than creating imaginary ones. I askthe voters to consider the qualifications and experience of thecandidates in all races, and not be distracted by non-issuessuch as the one raised by Ms. Noel.~Thank you, Al SpainEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for allintents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of itscontents.

KEEP RICH McNALLY RENSSELAER COUNTYDISTRICT ATTORNEY

When I decided to seek the position ofDistrict Attorney for Rensselaer Countya little over four years ago, my wifeand I thought long and hard aboutwhy we were committing the time andenergy to the task. Our two daughterswere 10 and 7. There would be a lot oftime away from family. The magnitudeof the impact of the office of the DistrictAttorney however cannot beunderstated. The job is not about boxscores and bluster. The job is a lawyer’sjob. Follow the rule of law, seek justicefor those whose lives have beendisrupted by those who prey upon our children, parents, andloved ones and do justice to the worst of the worst. The office Ilead as your District Attorney has won convictions in some of themost complex criminal cases I have seen in practicing criminal law inthe Capital District for over twenty years: Infant Homicides; SerialSex Offenders; Domestic Violence Homicides and Random GangAssaults. I was personally about to begin selecting jurors in aneight year old double homicide case where two men were accusedof brutally murdering two people in Troy in 2002, when DNAmatched a new suspect. There were countless hours and volumesof work put into that case. We did not rush in. I made the call todismiss the charges against the wrongfully accused. I directed theinvestigation that eventually convicted Michael Mosley of the killingsthat had haunted the parents of two murdered children and thiscommunity for nearly a decade. Mosley is serving life in prisonwithout the possibility of parole. In the meantime, I’ve led a team ofdedicated attorneys and investigators that have made the criminaljustice system in this county work the way it is supposed to. I takepride in our work and our record is proof of our professionalismand effectiveness. I ask for your support and look forward toserving as your District Attorney for the next four years.

WILL DESSO OPPOSE COUNTY TAX HIKE?

North Greenbush Town Council candidate Ernest Kern iscalling on County Legislator Lou Desso to oppose the taxhike proposed by the County Executive with the same logiche applied to the North Greenbush budget where he holds aconflicting elective office as a Town Councilman. Before anything was proposed by the Town Supervisor,Desso declared he would not support a tax hike, statedKern. How can he oppose a tax hike in North Greenbushwhile supporting one in Rensselaer County? Why did he notmake the same no tax increase declaration as a CountyLegislator?Kern also questioned how Mr. Desso might avoid a countytax hike. Perhaps he will take PILOT moneys from the CountyHighway Department to pay for General Fund expenses, ashe did here in North Greenbush. He might also simply allowthe county budget to carry a deficit rather than increasingtaxes, just as he did in North Greenbush for the past 3years.Last but not least, Mr. Desso might refuse to purchase anynew patrol cars for the Sheriff Department’s Road Patrolfleet which the county is currently soliciting bids for. Untilembarrassed into purchasing two police cars in NorthGreenbush this year, Mr. Desso had refused to allow theTown Police to replace a single car over the past threebudgets, forcing them to use cars that were less safe andmore costly to maintain.I call upon Mr. Desso to publicly oppose the county tax hikeproposal.Submitted by, Ernest KernCandidate for NG Town Council

TOWN OF NORTH GREENBUSH - MEET THE CANDIDATES NIGHT AND DEBATE

IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE SERVING

SAND LAKEIt has been my honor to serve as Sand Lake’s Supervisorthese past two years. My greatest delight has been meetingthe good people who make Sand Lake special! As my termends, I thank friends, supporters and employees who havemade public service genuinely pleasurable. Now is a good time to reflect on what worked and what needsimprovement. Notable accomplishments include: solar panelsand lighting at town facilities, our role in the Veterans MemorialPark, spurring town water improvements, protecting our lakesthrough sewer expansion, the challenges of the flood andhurricane and maintenance and improvement of our roads andbridges. Our “Burt’s Round Table” discussions bring people closer togovernment and encourage public participation. I hope similargatherings continue in the next administration. My special thanks to our hard-working Bicentennial Committee. These volunteers bring town history to life for futuregenerations. We’ll be celebrating in 2012!There have been disappointments and frustrations. The largestis that the current majority, Splain, Glasser and Turner, allowthe Town Attorney – a political appointee – to overstep thebounds of her authority and essentially run town government. The town attorney should give legal advice only whennecessary and requested. Instead, the town attorney directsthe Republican Majority. They are a rubber stamp, lackingaccountability and work ethic. One board member haswithdrawn from work on any town committees. The town nowfaces multiple lawsuits, some of which were avoidable. Theywaste precious tax dollars. Our town’s website must beupgraded and enhanced. The board has dragged its feet. TheTown Board Majority missed a chance to put the old highwaygarage on the tax rolls. Indecision and waffling are causingthis town asset to decay. The budget practices of this andpast Republican majorities are unsustainable, repeatedlyincreasing spending and draining our savings. Our diminishedaccounts will challenge any new administration. As my termends, I ask you to stay informed and be active in localgovernment. Thank you for making my service a pleasure.~Burt Rounds, Sand Lake SupervisorEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.

NORTH GREENBUSH TOWN CLERK

RESPONDS TO HEBERT & PRICE

Letter to the Editor: I am writing to set the record straightregarding misinformation being written about Councilman LouDesso by CB Smith allies Hebert & Price. After winning a seat on the North Greenbush Town Board in2007, Democrat leaders decided to deny voters their choiceand found a technicality in a 40 yr. old law causing him tovacate his seat. Shortly thereafter, county legislative actioncorrected the technicality and Lou was reappointed to the seathe had already won.State law required a special election to fill the remainder of histerm. Councilman Desso was happy to run with his partyendorsement and began to campaign as such. Eight days priorto the caucus I received a phone call from Democratcommitteeman Ed Casino asking me to see if Lou would run inthe caucus against Smith’s candidate. After prodding fromseveral committee people, he agreed and won the caucus by atwo to one margin. He didn’t INVADE the caucus as Mr. Pricewrites, he was INVITED to be there.Price makes a point to say Lou missed a Board meeting thatnight. It is the only meeting he had missed in four years.Recently, while battling a life threatening illness, unable to sit,he stood at meetings to perform the duties of his office. Both Price and Hebert write about voter choice but only whenit serves them. In this case, the Democrats refused to give Louthe line he won in a legally held election, thus denying the will ofthe people. Supreme Court Justice Roger McDonough thenordered his name be put on the ballot line.Hebert wants progress brought to the Town and Price says youcan’t serve two masters. Councilman Desso has demonstratedclearly that he can hold both of his seats without conflict as didDemocrats Ginny O’Brien and Keith Hammond before him. He isa hard working public servant and his dual office role certainlyhelped him to renegotiate the Town’s sales tax formula with theCounty that has great financial benefits for our Town and helpedhim get our Library funding restored.~Kate Connolly, NG Town ClerkEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for allintents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of its

2012 BUDGET MAINTAINS HIGHWAY

SERVICES IN NORTH GREENBUSH

North Greenbush Town Board members Joe Bott and Kelly Hoffmanhave taken issue with comments made regarding the 2011 TownHighway Budget, saying the department will receive adequatefunding and staffing, and that services will be maintained at thecurrent level. The highway budget is part of a fiscal package for2012 that includes a general fund budget that does not raise propertyor highway taxes for a fourth consecutive year. In addition, townservices are maintained, a $429,000 debt inherited from previousadministrations has been erased, and a substantial surplus established.Bott, who serves as chair of the Town Highway Committee, said theTown Board will continue to work with the highway superintendentto ensure highway services are maintained.“We know how important road repair and snow-plowing are toresidents, along with the other services and functions performed bythe department. We look forward to 2012 being another strongyear for highway services in the town,” said Bott. “There have beensome misstatements about the department’s budget for 2012. Thedepartment is adequately funded, and the department will receivethe support it needs during the coming year,” added Bott. Thedepartment has been funded adequately enough that the departmentwas able to compile a surplus. That surplus will be used to help fundthe 2012 highway budget and also help the town avoid a highwaytax increase for the fourth consecutive year. The 2012 budget also corrects some mistakes in past budgets. Threeworkman’s compensation payments in 2009 and 2010 were not paidand expenditures for retirement costs were paid from an incorrectfund. The mistakes were found by the new town comptroller, andwhen rectified, reduced the amount of the department’s surplus.“We have taken great care to balance budgets and accurately tracktown finances. A failure to do that by a previous administrationcaused a deficit to grow. We have been able to erase the deficit, andin doing so, protect needed services like highway and public safety,”said Hoffman.“The town will continue to provide needed support for town serviceslike the Highway Department while protecting taxpayers,” addedHoffman.Editors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for allintents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of its

STATEMENTS BY

E.G. CHALLENGERS

ARE NOT TRUE

Letter to the Editor: I amresponding to the article Mr.Langley wrote concerning ourdiscussion of our goals in theTown of East Greenbush. Letit be known that the present(and continuing) admin-istration has the right visionfor the town with regards totransportation issues, and theoverall welfare of the townresidents. I am proud to bean integral part of theadministration and by nomeans wish to see the Townof East Greenbush return tothe old republican ways ofstalling progress. I do notunderstand where the ideathat we are frustrated with thepresent town leadership camefrom. Those words werenever conveyed to candidateLangley. We have controlledtaxes and have transparentfinancial programs and audits, contrary to the view of thechallenging candidates. It istime to let the residents ofEast Greenbush know thestatements coming from thechallengers, things they wishto make people believe aresimply not true. FACT CHECK

Letter to the Editor: Mr. Robelotto’s recent article is yet furtherevidence of how his leadership style is to discredit, withoutcause, those whose opinions differ from his. It’s incredulousthat one who invites voters to return him to office would attacka sitting board member who is not running in the currentelection. With this in mind, how could he possibly claim that he would besuccessful working with members of the opposition party?Clearly, he must recognize that voters have been pleased withChris Kronau’s competency and accessibility having returnedher to various offices for over 24 years.~Bernadette & Arthur Mardon, Averill ParkEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.

A MORE COMPLETE VIEW OF DESSO’S &

SPAIN’S RECORDLetter to the Editor: A letter by Republican Committee memberJohn Wood criticized me while omitting the facts about CountyLegislator/Town Councilman Lou Desso’s record. Mr. Wood nevermentioned Desso’s holding of a conflicting elective office on ourtown board made possible because his party in the legislaturechanged the laws enforced by a State Judge which removed him. This allowed Desso to be reappointed to the seat the judge removedhim from. Also not mentioned is the fact that Mr. Desso and his allyMr. Spain turned off the cameras at town board meeting s so theywould no longer be viewable on Public Access television. As forfiscal responsibility, there was no mention of a needless $30,000 NOBID contract to redo the completed Comprehensive Plan whichwas presented to the town in 2007, paid for entirely with grantmoney. Nor was there any mention of their refusal to accept a$35,000 State Brownstone Grant awarded to revitalize Main Avenue.Nowhere did the letter note Mr. Desso’s redo of the 2011 townbudget with Mr. Spain’s approval, taking $71,000 in Highway Fundsto restore the Supervisor’s cuts in the General Fund. The HighwaySuperintendent now has no money to build a planned addition tothe garage or funds to handle increased pension and health costs. Finally, I must mention the more embarrassing episodes of thisadministration, the reckless firings of the Town Comptroller andYouth Director at Mr. Desso’s direction. The Comptroller’s reputationwas dragged through the mud with untrue accusations of an“unauthorized bank account” while the Youth Director wasterminated on grounds his job was not needed. That came afterthey first tried to fire him on trumped up allegations they wereforced to back away from. Shortly afterwards, the majorityapproved $10,000 in overtime to the highest salaried town hallemployee, a politically wired Building Inspector, to do some of theYouth Director’s duties claimed as “unnecessary”.This is a more complete view of the real record of Mr’s Dessoand Spain. ~Robert Price, WynantskillEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for allintents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of itscontents.

GOOD GOVERNMENT IS OPEN, HONEST

AND ACCOUNTABLELetter to the Editor: I saw the ad in last week’s Advertiserwhere the Schodack Republican candidates claimed to be a“Good Government Town Board Team”.They claim to be fiscal conservatives, yet they allowed a policeofficer to make $140,000 in his final year, so he could increasethe pension Schodack taxpayers will be paying for many years. They also settled a lawsuit for $120,000 with this same officerfor EVEN MORE OVERTIME.They claim to be fiscal conservatives, yet town taxes havealmost doubled in the past decade under their one-party rule. They claim to be “Working for the Future”, yet the town doesnot have an updated master plan with related zoning changes.

They just muddle through, letting connected developersdo whatever they want. They claim to represent “goodgovernment”, yet they decideall town business in secret inadvance of Town Boardmeetings, where there is nodebate or discussion. They claim to represent “goodgovernment”, yet theyrefused to attend a candidatesforum at Maple Hill High Schoolto defend their record.Schodack voters should beaware that these claims arejust political spin, with littleconnection to the facts.~Lillian DeMattia, CastletonEditors Note: The above articledoes not necessarily reflect theopinion or endorsement of theEditor or the Staff of THEADVERTISER, and for all intentsand purposes is impossible toverify the truth and veracity of itscontents.

EAST GREENBUSH DEMOCRATS

MISREPRESENT AUDIT FINDINGS

Before the residents of East Greenbush cast their vot on Elec-tion Day, Tuesday, November 8th, it is important to read anassessment from the former Director of State Audits at theNYS Office of the State Comptroller, Dave Hancox.Mr. Hancox comments and points out several deficiencies inthe current Administration’s management:• There are material deficiencies in the system of internal control.• During the year ending December 31, 2009, supplementary compensation was paid to certain employees in addition to their regular salary. There was no formal process of comparing payroll records to approved salaries.

Letter to the Editor: Former Supervisor Robelotto wants you tothink it was good that his job was supposedly “full time”. Does hereally believe that doing crossword puzzles, buying car parts andgoing to Lebanon Valley are a full-time Supervisor’s work?In case anyone needs reminders, here are things our “full time”Supervisor (who, by the way, was one of the highest paid in theCounty per capita) should have been handling better: 1. Before Robelotto, Sand Lake had a huge fund balance thatshould have kept our Town financially secure well into the future. With his budget mismanagement, spending on pet projectsskyrocketed. He played the hero by not raising taxes, but didn’t tellyou where the money was coming from. The result? Goodbyefund balance. 2. Robelotto mismanaged the Town’s grant for a community vanby illegally buying a vehicle that didn’t meet federal standards, acting without prior Board approval. The town is now defending afederal lawsuit because the van can’t be used by people inwheelchairs. It’s off the road, your money is gone and the disabledhave no medical transportation. 3. Robelotto failed to protect Town property, refusing to spendeven a small sum to repair the roof over part of the old TownGarage. That part of the building rotted, costing the Town more todemolish it than a roof repair would have cost. 4. Robelotto failed to properly oversee adoption of the newzoning. Now a court has said it was not properly adopted. Heblames the Clerk for not filing a document she was never asked tofile! 5. Robelotto’s majority on the board repeatedly blocked forwardmovement on a water system, leaving people unable to sell theirhome or get mortgages. 6. In Robelotto’s do-nothing Board majority, Mr. Splain refusesto work on committees and Turner and Glasser say nothing. 7. When residents ask questions and make statements, the majorityare caught arrogantly calling names like “vultures” and “crazy oldlady...”If that’s what full times gets us, I’ll go with Flora Fasoldt as part-time, thank you. ~David Neubauer, Averill ParkEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.

TOWN SUFFERED WITH ROBELOTTO’S

FULL-TIME LEADERSHIP

GUY FORTE FOR NASSAU TOWN COUNCIL

Hi, my name is Guy Forte. I amexcited and honored to announcemy candidacy for Nassau TownCouncil. By way of introduction,my wife, Sue, and I have beenresidents of Nassau for more than10 years. While we didn’t knowmuch about Nassau when we firstmoved here, we quicklydiscovered what a truly wonderfulplace it is to l ive and havedeveloped a deep commitment to

the town and the people who live here. One thing that is very important to me is serving the community.Over the years, I have been active as a member of the Village ofNassau Beautification Committee, helping to plan and put on annualsummer events enjoyed by the community. I currently serve onthe Village of Nassau Planning Board as well. Most recently, I helpedto re-establish the Nassau Sunshine Fund. The Fund is a charitableorganization that provides no-interest loans to Nassau residentswho are dealing with financial emergencies, which are, unfortunately, all too common. Loans are funded through donationsfrom members of the community, so it’s really the community takingcare of its own.Among my core values are a commitment to open and transparentgovernment and the idea that a community can only work whenall of its members have a voice in what goes on and how things getdone. Regardless of who you are, where you live, or what yourparty affiliation is, if you’re a member of the community, if youhave something to contribute or a concern to be raised, it shouldbe heard and respected. Ultimately, what happens in the communityshould be a reflection of the values and desires of its members.Because of these values, I believe I am the best candidate for theNassau Town Council. I look forward to continuing my service tothe community as a member of the Town Council. Vote for me onNovember 8th and I will work hard to represent the voices of allresidents and to preserve the community character of our town.

Dear Editor, After reading in the Advertiser (10/20/11) the charge thatthe Nassau Republican Committee were seeking to takeover the entire town government, I decided to researchthe charge. Mr. Fleming, Town Supervisor, Mr. McCagg, HighwaySupervisor are running for re-election. Mr. Carpenter isalready a Town Councilman. All are members of theCommittee as is Mr. Sears who is employed as DeputySupervisor and is now running for Town Council. Further, the Republican Town Clerk candidate is married to acommittee member. When these elected officials meet, are they acting asmembers of the Committee or as elected officials of ALLthe people? Do personal , professional and civic interestsconflict with the real needs of the citizens of the town? These overlapping interests and loyalties can present realconflicts of interest in a time when voters everywhere haveso little faith in any parts of our government. I am a registered Republican although I have neverfollowed party lines in my voting. I believe in checks andbalances in all levels of government, even in Nassau.Because of this I will not vote for the Republican candidates. I am paying for this letter to run, because I believe thisissue is important.Sincerely, Jack O’Leary Paid Advertisement

A MESSAGE FROM COUNCILWOMAN

MANGOLD

Government has changed inEast Greenbush over the lastyear. In November 2010 I waselected to the Town Boardalong with Phil Malone. In thatshort time I have learnedmuch, and I’ve come to appre-ciate all the hard work thatgoes into running Town Gov-ernment. Working with theCitizens Fiscal Advisory Com-mittee, our Comptroller, andDepartment Heads, we havekept operations well within thebudget, with a forecast for a $240,000 surplus this year. Theupcoming budget calls for further reduction of our debt and acontinued conservative approach to managing our revenues. Please recognize that this Town budget under our controlrepresents only about 20% of your total tax bill. Your school, library, and Fire Departments each develop their own bud-gets, which you have the right to vote on every year.Since I joined the Town Board, we have initiated contracts forannual independent audits over the next three years. I am afirm believer in audits which provide an opportunity to iden-tify and refine areas that need improvement. We have se-cured significant revenues, by forging a payment plan fromthe City of Rensselaer for outstanding water use fees, andcollecting mitigation fees from developers for commercialexpansion projects that we have approved. It is good to seethis positive economic development revitalized as majorprojects at Fed Ex, Regeneron, and NYISO are now movingalong. In addition I have attended numerous ribbon cuttingsfor new small businesses and retail outlets throughout thepast year. This energy is set to continue as many more proposals are inthe planning stages, and I voted to approve development ofadditional retail units on the Route 4 corridor at the OctoberBoard meeting. It is through growth like this that we canexpand our base and start seeing some relief in our taxes. We pride ourselves on open and honest government, andencourage residents to visit our website atwww.eastgreenbush.org. There you can view minutes of ourmeetings, agendas, reports, and news about community ac-tivities. We love educated voters. Do not be fooled by thosewho will take a small part of a document or article and try todiscredit this administration with distortion.

I ask for your support once again so that we can follow throughwith the positive growth we have generated, and keep our hardworking employees providing the services which make this agreat family community for all of us. Please vote Democrat,Working Families, or Independence on Tuesday, November 8.

SAND LAKE DESERVED A CHANGE

Letter to the Editor: After reading Joe Johnson’s letter in theAdvertiser, I feel a need to respond and inform the residents ofSand Lake of the real facts of why the Democrats did notendorse Steve Robelotto for Supervisor in the last threeelections. The Democratic Committee’s decision was based onhis performance during his term as Supervisor. We felt that theresidents of Sand Lake deserved better. We strongly believedthat we needed a candidate who possessed exceptional workethic, researched grants available, and worked in the bestinterest of the residents of Sand Lake. Of utmost importance,we believed that all residents needed to be treated with respectand concern for their needs at all times. We needed a candidatethat fit all these qualifications and certainly Mr. Robelotto, asdemonstrated through his tenure in office, did not fulfill ourexpectations. As chairman, I never spoke to Mr. Robelotto about townbusiness and I take great offense at being wrongly accused ofdoing so. I truly believe that once the residents of the towndecide who they want to represent them in town government, politics is over and the residents of Sand Lake are first. With my interest, work ethic and business experience, I believeas town councilman I can make a positive change and worktogether with the Town Board and residents to move Sand Lakeforward.~Mark Cioffi, Averill ParkEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinion

STEPHANIE PIEL FOR NORTH GREENBUSH

TOWN COUNCILI am pleased to announce mycandidacy for North GreenbushTown Council. For the last twoyears, I have served as attorneyfor the Zoning Board of Appeals, and as a member of the PublicSafety Committee. In 2010, Iserved on the Comprehensive PlanImplementation/Codes RevisionCommittee. In these roles, I havedemonstrated my ability to workwith residents with differing politicalviews, because ultimately, the workthat we have done isn’t about me

or them, it is about serving you, the residents of the Town.As Councilwoman, I will continue to work as part of a bi-partisanteam to expand our tax base in order to keep our budgetsbalanced without raising taxes and to maintain a high quality oflife for residents of the Town.I feel my life experiences have provided invaluable lessonsthat I intend to apply as a Councilwoman. I was the firstperson in my family to go to college, graduating from SienaCollege after having worked my way through school waitressingand raising a family. In doing this, I learned to prioritize myfamily’s needs while living on a very limited budget. While Iattended Albany Law School, I had to figure out how to balancemy responsibilities as a law student, a mom, and an employee. This was by no means easy, but I learned the importance ofhard work, and that short-term sacrifices can provide longterm rewards.I live on Winter Street with my husband, Jerry, and children,Pam and Danny. I am a principal at the Albany law firm HinmanStraub, PC. I am President of the Board for St. Catherine’sCenter for Children and serve on the Board’s Strategic Planning,Continuous Quality Improvement, and Finance Committees.I have been endorsed by the Republican, Conservative, andIndependence parties and am running for Town Council as partof a bi-partisan Good Government Team that includes Al Spainfor Supervisor, Lou Desso for Town Council, Amy Clinton forReceiver of Taxes, and Kathryn Connolly for Town Clerk.

WHERE ARE THE EAST GREENBUSH

FINANCIALS???Letter to the Editor: It should be perfectly clear that thequestion about the status of the East Greenbush Financials isrhetorical. Given the previously documented financial conditionof the Town and the findings and recommendations containedin the reports from OSC, Moodys, Financial Advisors and UHY,there is just no excuse for not having financial information in atimely manner. Financial condition and financial managementare where the problems are in this Town. If the Board actuallywanted to be on top of things, it could have simply required ofstaff to have the Annual Update Document (AUD) for 2010done and to the State Comptroller when it was due on April 1stof this year. And it would have required that a certified auditbe done by June or July, or maybe even August or September. It didn’t.The Management of this Corporation (East Greenbush) is askingto be retained in the coming election. The Stockholders of thisCorporation we, the taxpayers have a right to informationrelated to the performance of Management. We are not gettingit.Given what happened last year, where the Stockholders werefed spun and misleading information about a yet to be releasedaudit report before the election, only to discover later that theAdministrations statements were profoundly misleading, it’snot a stretch at all to perceive much the same game-plan goingon. The McCabe administration is sitting on the 2010 audit sostockholders/taxpayers won’t have independent informationon which to judge its performance before the election. Justdoesn’t pass the smell test for transparency and accountability. It was asserted last year that the UHY audit report containedan “unqualified opinion.” That was a lie. And now we have noidea whether Town management has addressed the matterscited last year in a very critical report. I urge readers to readthe commentary titled The downward slide of East Greenbush,NY at the following website. It is written by Dave Hancox, theformer Director of State Audits at NYS OSC and a well-respectedprofessional. http://davehancox.blogspot.com/~Don Johnson, East GreenbushEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of

NO CORRECTION NEEDED

Dear Mr. Fleming, Regarding the letter I had in the Advertiser last week, youemailed me stating, “You may want to note for a correctionthat I am not the Republican Town Chairman and have notbeen for quite some time.” I disagree with you. There is noneed for me to make such a correction since the document Irelied on is the current, official Board of Elections 2010 -2012Town/City Republican Chairmen list. It names you as theNassau Republican Chairman. I did call the Board of Elections to further clarify and a clerknamed Kari said that Ron Sears was now the chair, but, shewas unable to verify if this was correct. She could not providenor offered any official documentation to support thatstatement despite two phone calls and a direct request forher to do so. Whether it is you, or Ron Sears, the point I am making is stillvalid: a small group of individuals, calling themselves theNassau Republican Committee, are running for elected officethemselves or choosing family members or other close relationsto do the same. Substituting Mr. Sears’ name for yours onlyreinforces my point, because he is your Deputy Supervisorand he is running for a seat on the Town Council. It is justmusical chairs. I still believe having a small group control Nassau is not goodgovernment for the citizens of the town; no matter what theparty. Checks and balances work best for all in a democracy. I am responding to your email in public, because this is anissue the public needs to know about.Gloria Boudreau, Resident of East Nassau,Town of Nassau Taxpayer Paid Advertisement

RESPONSE TO PAT HARRINGTON’S

“FACTS” IN NORTH GREENBUSHLetter to the Editor: I’ve officially grown tired of the lies andaccusations being spewed by C.B. Smith and his “Progress”team in North Greenbush. While C.B. and his associates areentitled to their own opinion, they are certainly not entitled totheir own facts: He claims that the Town Board has allowed4&43 to become a vacant lot, although wasn’t it C.B. and friendsthat filed frivolous lawsuits to deter the construction? If thelawsuits had not been filed, the construction would have takenplace in a much more favorable economy and we would bereaping sales tax benefits now—just a FACT. He claims thatCouncilman Lou Desso was elected last year with no opponent, when in fact a Democratic caucus was held that Mr. Desso wasinvited to by the Democrat committee and prevailed againstC.B.’s handpicked candidate by a two to one margin. ThenC.B. refused to endorse the democratically chosen candidateof their party, and Councilman Desso had to file a lawsuit to beput on the line he won—just a FACT. He and Highway SupervisorMark Premo claim that the Town Board took PILOT money fromthe Highway Department in last year’s budget to pay for aspending spree. The fact is payments in lieu of taxes are notstatutorily required to be directed to the Highway Department. The Town Board balanced a budget based on the total revenueallotted to the Town, just like how any hard working familywould balance their household budget. Furthermore, Mr. Premoclaims that his budget is currently under funded? Why then didhe propose a 2012 budget that shows no deficit? The fact isthat this is a concocted issue that C.B. and company havecreated to smear a fiscally prudent Town Board—just a FACT. Iurge the voters in North Greenbush to not read too deeply intothe spin-machine that C.B. is dishing out. Remember, Al Spainand Lou Desso are part of a Town Board that have ERASED a$429,000 deficit, inherited from a previous Board, without raisingour taxes. No spin necessary on that, just a FACT.~John Wood, North GreenbushEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the

PERSONAL VENDETTA IS PUNISHING ALL

SAND LAKE RESIDENTS

Letter to the Editor: The problem of transportation in the Town ofSand Lake has been a concern of mine since I moved here in 1968.As time went on and I became more involved with the Sand LakeSeniors where I was President for many years, I realized the problemwas not merely getting to work, groceries, prescriptions, doctorappointments etc. I was elated to learn that another woman (BarbaraMartinage) was also concerned. She had applied for a State Grant(2 in fact) to obtain a van to be used in the Town, but they weredenied. Then we started going to various venues to draw attentionto this need. What we were promoting was a van to be used toprovide our residents with much needed transportation for ourresidents, mostly seniors. We then approached then-SupervisorRobelotto who contacted Senator Joe Bruno’s office, and in time, they awarded the Town with a Member Item in the amount of$31,000 to purchase a “Community Van”. A meeting was set up todiscuss the details of what would be needed to carry out this project. The type and size of the van was a major part of the discussion. Itwas decided that a wheelchair van was not necessary to providethe urgent needs of the community since the County had made itclear that wheelchair vans were available to wheelchair boundresidents at no cost to the Town. NOTE: Mrs. Martinage was partof this meeting. The Community Van operated for months with non-medical traineddrivers and not once was a request received from a wheelchairbound resident. I have yet to understand why Mrs. Martinagedecided to sue the Town over the purchase of a non wheelchairequipped van. Her attitude was expressed at “If it can’t be my way, then it’s no way at all”. Is there no sensible solution to this injustice? In any event, it is the residents, especially our seniors, who nolonger have use of the “Community Van” and Steve Robelotto whotook the time to acquire this “gift” hoping to improve services forthe Town only to be subjected to unnecessary criticism. Oneperson’s personal vendetta is punishing us all.~Marilynne Whittam, Averill Park ResidentEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for allintents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of itscontents.

EAST GREENBUSH SUPERVISOR’S

CONTEMPT FOR RESIDENTS A PROBLEM

Letter to the Editor: As I lifelong registered Democrat, I wantedto express my sincere disgust at the conduct of Rick McCabeand the Democratic leadership in this Town at the most recentTown Board meeting. Rick McCabe was outright dismissive ofresidents comments and complaints to the point where he blewup at one resident in exasperation saying he had been “Puttingup with this crap for a few years.” His words not mine.Mr. McCabe has simply NOT done his job. He and Toni Murphyhave TAKEN $22,000 without board approval to increase theirpensions and it has been proven. He has led us to JUNK BONDSTATUS and he continues to mis-manage this Town, spinningthe facts to make it appear that we are in good shape. We arenot!Since Mr. McCabe has been Supervisor, our TAXES HAVEINCREASED JUST ABOUT 20% based on budgets that HEdrafted. His dismissive attitude toward the public was notedby one senior resident at the board meeting, as being an attitudecarried out by Town employees in the tax office as well. Noresident of any Town should ever be dismissed in the way RickMcCabe did with his unwarranted tirade. It was suggestedthat if he considers the public’s opinion “crap”, then he shouldstep down. If he is not willing to, voters in this Town should seeto it that he does and vote him out! Rick McCabe, Toni Murphy,Phil Malone and Sue Mangold have demonstrated a disregardfor the public in their willingness to stick together, and as suchif they are of one mind, they should all be removed from officeby the people they take for granted.~William Mahan, East GreenbushEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and for allintents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity of itscontents.

CAN WE HAVE JUST 1 IN SCHODACK TO

ASK QUESTIONS?Letter to the Editor: In 2007, after assisting the independentvoter effort that nearly elected Ray Lemka as Town Supervisor,I began attending Schodack Town Board Meetings. I can attestthere is almost zero discussion, questioning, or dissent onlegislation by the Board at any public Board meetings. 99.8%of the time, no Board member questions anything before thepublic. Long time, 1 party rule does that.As a taxpayer, I think what they vote on (laws, spending, zoning, taxes, etc.) needs to be discussed by the Board beforethe public. At most meetings, it is only the audience (Ray, Martha andme), no one on the Board, itself, asking questions.Board votes appear predetermined. No Board memberexpresses curiosity or interest about legislation before thepublic. Do they caucus out of earshot of the public withoutoversight? Would that be legal? Why won’t the Board discuss what the public should hear atpublic meetings? Why didn’t the incumbent Town Board candidates commit toattend the Maple Hill High School candidate forum? Why didthey duck that open forum and kill that unique opportunity tospeak to their constituents and to students?Isn’t 2011 the year Schodack should elect just one candidateto the Board who will not be a guaranteed yes vote?Don’t we need one advocate on the Board? Can we elect LindaUnderwood to ask why, what, how and when?Every person in town government is of one party. This hasbeen so for nearing two decades. Can this represent you well?Don’t you want an elected official who will ask why and howmuch? The Board is spending our ever increasing taxes as it runs ourtown. Don’t we need at least one watchdog within the wholegovernment?~Ken Stokem, Schodack, taxpayer advocateEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.

VOTERS OF NASSAU BEWARE

Most people dream of living in a small town. Close knitcommunity ties allow us to have a sense of security. They also allow us to look out for one another. I havebecome aware of the position opening for Nassau TownReceiver of Taxes, and the two candidates running forthis position are Mrs. Doyle and Mrs. Gadreault. I mustadmit that I have no personal knowledge of Mrs. Doyle, but I have had many personal interactions with Mrs.Gadreault over the past five years. I believe that Mrs.Doyle shows that she is far more qualified for thisposition with her previous banking experience and thefact that she has already served as Deputy Town Clerk, than some housewife.Amy Lovegrove, Resident Paid Advertisement

THE HOMETOWN

LEADERSHIP TEAM

As a lifelong resident of thisTown, who chose to raise myfamily here, I wanted to reachout to al l voters as weapproach this year’s election.I am running this yearbecause I have been a partof a growing group ofresidents and taxpayers whocannot understand why ourtaxes keep increasing, ourservices keep declining andthe hometown I grew up

knowing seems to be slipping away a little more each year.Rather than try to figure it out from the outside, I decidedto try to do something about it and fight for the growingnumber of people who want a solution rather than excuses. When you let one party control things for too long, it seemswe, as residents, lose control altogether. If we continue toallow this trend we have no one but ourselves to blame. Itis time for a new administration, with a new perspectiveand a commitment to solve the problems we have ratherthan simply benefit from the system. I am proud to standalongside my running mates Keith Langley, Ed Gilbert andCorine Sheldon as we work to improve our Town. If youare registered, regardless of party, I invite you to join ourteam and fix what the current administration has broken. The time is now and we are asking for your vote! SETTING the

RECORD STRAIGHT

ON SCHODACK’S

TOWN FINANCES

Letter to the Editor: Therewas a politically-motivatedletter written by a politicalcandidate regarding thefinances in the Town ofSchodack. I wish to set therecord straight regarding thetown’s finances.During the past two years, thetown has been fiscal lyconservative in the face of atough national recession.Town taxes have been stableand the town’s importantservices have beenmaintained even despiteincreasing costs. The town has also placed anincreased emphasis onreducing expenses whereverpossible. The town has heldoff on filing some vacanciescreated by retirements ordepartures. In fact, the townhas fewer employees onboard now than a few yearsago. The fiscal management of thetown has received praise. Therespected financial analystsMoody’s recently reviewedtown finances and found thetown on solid ground. Solidenough ground that thetown’s credit rating wasupgraded. Many municipalities are facingreal difficulties and challengesduring these times and findtheir finances in troubledshape. For Schodack to beboth weathering a recessionand receiving positive reviewsfrom independent andrespected analysts abouttown finances is definitelygood news for our residents. As a Councilman, I haveworked hard to meet thechallenges facing our town. For the position of the townto be misrepresented forpolitical purposes by townDemocrats is unfortunate. Iwrite this letter so residentsknow the truth.~Frank Curtis, SchodackCouncilmanEditors Note: The above articledoes not necessarily reflect theopinion or endorsement of theEditor or the Staff of THEADVERTISER, and for all intentsand purposes is impossible toverify the truth and veracity of itscontents.

IT’S NO WONDER

Letter to the Editor: This week, we heard more bad news aboutPresident Obama’s economy. The so-called “misery index”, whichtracks the unemployment rate as added to the rate of inflation, is atits highest in three decades. The President has failed to revitalize the economy, more and moreare angry and hurting, and Democrats know there will be a priceto pay at the polls. So it is not a surprise to see Democrats in Schodack try to confusevoters with a wild list of claims and outright misrepresentationsabout the fiscal management of the Town of Schodack. Democratsare obviously desperate to distract from their party’s considerablefailings with the national economy. As Democrats have completely failed on the national level to managethe economy, Schodack Republicans have successfully managedtown finances and balanced budgets. The town has restrainedspending during the Obama recession and protected neededservices. Republicans have also been fiscally conservative and kepttaxes stable, including a 2012 budget that comes in under the statetax cap. It’s no wonder that Schodack Democrats want to confuse voters, when their party is responsible for so much going wrong on thenational and Republicans can take credit for so much going righton the county and town levels.Taxpayers may remember the news from earlier this year whenMoody’s, a respected financial analysis firm, reviewed Schodack’sfinances. Moody’s upgraded the town’s credit rating at a time whenmany other cities and towns are facing real fiscal trouble.Residents would also be wise to remember a recent news article inwhich the former treasurer of the Schodack Democrats was arrestedfor allegedly embezzling money from the party. It makes youquestion whether we should have Democrats put in charge oftaxpayer money when they cannot even manage their small amountof campaign funds safely. ~Christopher Lucarelli, CastletonEditors Note: The above article does not necessarily reflect the opinionor endorsement of the Editor or the Staff of THE ADVERTISER, and forall intents and purposes is impossible to verify the truth and veracity ofits contents.

RESPONSE TO ROBELOTTO’S SILLY

SEASON PART 1 & 2

Letter to the Editor: I happen to be one of those people who willtake anything you say about me with a grain of salt. However, I willnot sit back and let you defame my husband , Burt Rounds, whohas worked long hours as the Town Supervisor during the pasttwo years with a town board and an attorney who obviously taketheir orders from you. Although Burt asked to meet with youbefore the end of your term, you refused, you were angry that youdid not win and the heck with a smooth transition which wouldhave benefited the town.During the first board meeting of 2010, you sat with an older womanand laughed and mocked Burt the entire time. I know this, becauseI was sitting right behind you. Who does something like that exceptan infantile little boy who is angry because he did not get his ownway? You were determined to undermine the new supervisor andyou did every chance you got. You visited Town Hall to meet withyour people so frequently; some said you were there more thanwhen you were the Supervisor. It also appears you feel it is yourright to come into Town Hall and use the Town Clerk’s computer. Acomputer I would think would hold confidential information. If it isok for constituents to use the Town Clerk’s computer, the publicshould be notified that it is available during regular working hoursfor their personal use.Mr. Robelotto, I also have to say that I find your attempt to damageChris Kronau’s reputation contemptible. Chris has served the townfor many years and she deserves to be treated with the respect she

has earned and deserves. I thinkyou under-estimate the votersof Sand Lake who will not takekindly to this characterassassination. “Incompetence, laziness andindecision” are the words youuse to describe my husband’stenure as Supervisor. I say,“hard working, respectful andintelligent leadership” is a betterdescription.~Sherry A.
